DF Editor runs on Apple Silicon Macs with macOS 15 or later. The current installer supports neither Intel Macs nor Windows.
Can I edit by talking to an AI assistant?
Connect your own compatible assistant to describe edits without manually changing the transcript. Chat editing uses the assistant’s connection to DF Editor; voice editing is available when that assistant can use editing tools during a voice conversation. The assistant uses its own account and subscription.
Do I need an AI assistant?
No. You can transcribe, cut video, create clips, adjust framing, add subtitles and export yourself. Connecting your own compatible AI assistant is optional.
Does my footage leave my Mac?
Your source videos stay on your Mac. Transcription sends extracted audio to AssemblyAI through our service. If you connect an AI assistant, it can receive requested transcripts, project details and frame images.
Do I need an account to download?
No account is needed to download the installer. Sign in with Google after installation to use DF Editor. Internet access is needed for sign-in, account checks and transcription.
What can I export?
MP4 video, SRT or VTT subtitles, and XML or FCPXML timelines. MP4 includes your chosen framing, subtitles and titles. Timeline files let you continue editing in another video editor.
